Your Challenge

The toxic waste is extremely volatile and is likely to explode if left as it is. But, it is stable and will not explode when it’s stored in small volumes. The objective of your task is for your team to successfully divide the toxic waste into two lots of 4 pints. At present, it is completely filling one large 8-pint container. The resources at your disposal are a three-pint tube and a five-pint tube. These resources are intended to help you produce the two lots of four pints.

For safety reasons you only have 15 minutes to complete the task. Your team must only use your wrong hand (non-writing hand) to pour the chemicals! But be warned. If split.. the chemicals are lethal!

This team building activity draws our individual and team learning relating to managing change, effective project management, precise communication, contributing to team success, developing high-trust relationships and getting the job done properly, on time and within the restraints imposed.

Set in motion a series of events where one thing leads to another, that leads to another, and another until something really big happens. It’s either a big failure or a big success. And, to be successful your team will need to plan carefully, keep goals and essential results to be achieved in mind, work inter-dependently with remote teams and arrange items to continue the perpetual motion from point a to point b.

Developing effective skills and genuinely understanding individual roles and responsibilities within teams is so important to developing effective teamwork. Success can only be achieved when effective communication skills are partnered with effective resource management and team management – just like in the real world of business!
