Team Building Event: Electronic Isotope
Your Challenge
Picture the scene. A uranium-filled fuel rod has fallen from a train that was transporting it from the nuclear power station to the reprocessing plant. Upon hitting the ground, the fuel rod has split into nine pieces and a large central core with an unstable cap, plus eight smaller pieces surround the larger core. Now that’s a problem! For safety reasons an area has been cordoned off around the radioactive material. The Geiger counter reaches dangerously high levels in this zone and thus it is unsafe to enter here.

Your team is one of a number of clean up teams sent in by the government to make the area safe, and quickly. Your team task is to safely remove the fuel rods to the outer perimeter where they can then be made safe by a specialist team. This must be done in sequence and very carefully. They must not be dropped or flicked to the perimeter as this may cause a uranium leak, and your team won’t be around to tell the story!
The Electronic Isotope team building activity is lots of fun, but it draws out individual and team learning regarding effective planning, roles and responsibilities, dealing with failure, resilience, win-win relationships and quality of outputs.

This thought-provoking, fun team building activity can be run with teams of 12 to 60 participants. Electronic Isotope generates involvement and collaboration and sets the scene for effective team learning and the activity can be run alongside a classroom based learning facilitated by a specialist member of the Summit team.
